Accessible Features

This website conforms to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines published by the W3C's Web Accessibility Initiative as well as the U.S. Federal Government's Section 508 guidelines.  The website has been modified to meet those guidelines in providing all our patrons with a web site that can be accessed by everyone.  To help in make sure the site is accessible, our pages are checked through a text-to-speech program.  Please note that because we have a navigation bar at the left-hand side of most pages, and some pages feature multiple columns, you may need to reformat pages into a single column for your screen reader.

Some of the features include:

  • Image tags.  All image tags include the ALT parameter containing a brief description of the image.
  • A Site Map listing all the pages on our website including links to outside pages.

  • Text Navigation links is provided at the bottom of each page, which enables easy navigation from one page to another without returning to the main intro page.

  • A "Skip Navigation Links" link appears at the top of every page to allow the user to skip over the repeated navigation content and jump directly to the content of the page.  In conjunction with the page bottom text links, this makes the navigation and use of our site more efficient.
  • Currently there are no audio or video clips in use on the web site.  So there is no issues that should affect persons with hearing disabilities.

Please note:   These features only apply to pages within the L.A.V.T.A. dot org and Wheels Bus dot com website and not to links that point outside our site.

Documents in .PDF format

Free tools from the Adobe Corporation are also available to assist visually impaired users at their website.  The following links will open a new browser window.  A list of alternative .PDF readers can be found at http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/alternate.html.  Also, Adobe Corporation has added a .pdf conversion tool that will convert .pdf files to HTML pages.  You will find that resource at http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/88de.htm.  To download this tool, select the link.  This link is made to assist in accessibility of .PDF files on our website, such as Dial-a-Ride App in our Dial-A-Ride section.  No endorsement of Adobe Acrobat or Adobe Systems, Inc., or warranty is implied or expressed by L.A.V.T.A.
