Bus Shelter Mural Dedication (2006)

AVHS art students in front of the bus shelter and the mrual.Wheels held a ribbon cutting ceremony on 9 February 2006 at the northeast corner of Santa Rita Road at Black Avenue to honour five Amador Valley High School art students for their contribution to the Wheels Bus Shelter Art Mural Program.

The program which started in 1999, began as a pilot project to help reduce graffiti on some of the system’s most heavily vandalized shelters.  This project also gives local high school art students a chance to design and paint their very own bus shelter mural and to provide Wheels passengers with a more welcoming place to wait for a bus.  The project design concept and theme “Back to the Basics”, was coordinated through the City of Pleasanton’s Civic Arts Commission, to complement the city’s other successful public art projects.  [Photos]

AVL Launch Event (2004)

AVL Bus Operator Interface. This is in celebration of the launch of its new Automatic Vehicle Locator (AVL), a global positioning system that uses satellites to track buses as they move in traffic.  The information is then transmitted to a digital display that enables riders to see, in real-time, how long it will be before the next bus arrives.  Also real-time information available on the web here on wheelsbus.com.  This launch was attended by staff, politicians and the news media.  [Photos]
