Rider Information | Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some frequently asked questions on Wheels Dial-A-Ride.

Q) After I am certified as ADA-eligible, may I still ride the regular fixed-route Wheels buses?

A) Yes.  Using the regular fixed-route system provides access throughout the area.  Fixed-route systems operate on timed schedules and require no advance reservations.  With an ADA eligibility card, individuals may ride regular Wheels Fixed Route buses free-of-charge.

Q) I plan to take the City of Pleasanton Paratransit to my appointment.  The appointment will end after 5:00 PM, when the Pleasanton service is no longer operating.  Can I take the Wheels Dial-a-Ride home?

A) Yes.  If the first leg of your trip is on the Pleasanton Paratransit service, call that office first.  They will help you to coordinate your return trip on the Wheels Dial-a-Ride.

Q) If I use a different service for each leg of my trip, how do I pay?

A) You need to purchase separate Wheels Dial-A-Ride and Pleasanton Paratransit tickets/vouchers.  Wheels Dial-A-Ride also accepts cash fares.

Q) Can I use Dial-a-Ride to go outside the Wheels service Area?

A) Yes.  ADA-eligible individuals within the Wheels service area simply call Dial-A-Ride and request a ride to travel anywhere in the San Francisco Bay Area.  Dial-A-Ride will make arrangements for you to transfer to the appropriate ADA paratransit provider's vehicle to complete your trip.  Please be aware that most other providers in the Bay Area do not schedule rides two weeks in advance.  Your trip cannot be confirmed until the reservation is accepted by all providers involved.
