Update to Temple Service Change Proposal
Wheels Route 15 - Springtown
LAVTA staff and the City of Livermore wish to thank all those interested persons who took the time to attend the workshop at the Springtown Homeowners Association meeting room on May 1, 2008. More than 20 persons discussed the issues surrounding moving the Route 15 from Heather Lane to Wisteria and Arrowhead (between Scenic and Bluebell).
The supporters from the Hindu Temple want the bus service to be far more convenient for them to access the Temple, as the nearest bus stops are currently ¼ mile away. It is felt that many Temple members will utilize Wheels Route 15 to reach the facility if the bus stops were in front of the Temple. The Temple owns the land on both sides of Arrowhead and wishes to host bus stops on both sides of the street.
Neighbors expressed numerous concerns about traffic, noise, speeding and dust from the substandard segment of street in the middle stretch of Arrowhead (by the Temple). LAVTA conveyed the results of the workshop to the City. Of highest concern was the street conditions (narrow segment, lacking sidewalks, pavement condition issues) that neighbors stated as their main opposition to bus services. The City, LAVTA, and the Hindu Temple have began discussions on how the Temple may be able to assist in making the necessary improvements to Arrowhead Way that would address the neighborhood concerns and allow Route 15 to migrate over to Arrowhead from Heather.
This proposed change has been delayed until at least January 2009. LAVTA and the City will convene another neighborhood workshop in the coming weeks to provide an update on this situation.
